Police recover items stolen from Chatham cemetery
Police say several items stolen from Maple Leaf Cemetery last month have been recovered.
During the past month, police received several complaints from the Chatham-Kent Cemetery Operations staff regarding the theft of brass vases and plaques from the Chatham cemetery.
Officers have recovered a large quantity of items believed to have been stolen from the gravesites.
Officers have identified the man responsible for two of the thefts and he has been charged. Police continue to investigate the other thefts. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Mark VanderGreindt at firstname.lastname@example.org or 519-436-6600 extension 293.
All recovered items have been returned to the Cemetery Operations Office. If you believe that a gravesite of a loved one was victimized at Maple Leaf Cemetery, police urge you to contact the Cemetery Operations Office at 519-360-1998 in order to identify the missing items.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service and Cemetery Operations Office are working together to ensure these items are returned to their rightful place.
