Man dies after serious assault in Sarnia
A 26-year-old man has died after being assaulted in Sarnia Wednesday afternoon.
Sarnia Police Service, along with Lambton Paramedics, were dispatched to the 300 block of Maxwell Street in the City of Sarnia regarding an assault that had taken place at around 4p.m.
Upon arrival officers observed a 26-year-old male victim, with critical injuries, lying on the ground outside. He was transported to hospital and then later transported to London Health Sciences due to the serious nature of his injuries.
A second man, 30 years of age, had also sustained injuries that were non-life threatening in nature but required medical attention. He was arrested at the scene and then transported to Bluewater Health. Once that man received medical attention, he was transported to the Sarnia Police Station as the investigation continued by the Sarnia Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. this morning, the 26-year-old man died from his injuries at London Health Sciences.
Police say the 30-year-old man, Matthew Gerard Theriault, of Sarnia, has been charged with second degree murder. The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
