Wanted man arrested after traffic stop in Chatham

A man wanted for failing to attend court was arrested after a traffic stop on Grand Avenue East in Chatham last night.

Police say a vehicle was stopped by an officer on general patrol shortly after 7 p.m. The officer learned that the driver was suspended for unpaid fines.  The 35-year-old Chatham woman was charged with driving while under suspension. 

A query of the passenger also revealed that he was wanted for failing to attend court in December. The 21-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he is in custody for a bail hearing.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.
