Tractor-trailer crashes into cement barrier at Highway 401 construction zone

A 59-year-old man is facing a careless driving charge after a tractor trailer crashed into a cement barrier on Highway 401 early Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Scane Road at around 4:15 a.m.

OPP say the driver of an eastbound tractor trailer collided with the cement barrier while entering into the construction zone. The vehicle suffered extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. There were no injuries reported.

Police say the male driver, Allan Howgate, 59-years-old from Sandfield Township, Ontario was charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
