Salvation Army launches Christmas toy drive

The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries have begun their Christmas toy drive for 2018. Toy donations can be left at:

46 Orangewood Boulevard, Chatham
600 Lowe Avenue, Chatham
18 Main Street East, Ridgetown

New unwrapped toys are being accepted until December 10. Toys for children 12 and younger are being accepted. Captain Karen Holland told CKReview News that donations are accepted after that date and can still be delivered before Christmas to families who have exceptional circumstances.

“11 and 12-year-olds are more difficult to buy for, so people donate gift cards to restaurants and stores”, Captain Holland said, adding “electronic toys are not given away because we can’t know the operating system everyone has and it is unfair to give one child a tablet and not be fair to the others.”

Holland said, “When parents come in they fill out applications and we try to fulfill that.”
