Fire at attached garage in Chatham causes $150,000 in damages
A fire that started at an attached garage in Chatham last night caused $150,000 in damages.
Fire crews responded to 393 Baldoon Rd – Unit 4 at around 9 p.m. after multiple 911 calls.
On arrival crews found the attached garage heavily involved in fire. All occupants self-evacuated from the house prior to the arrival of firefighters and there was no report of injuries. The fire was quickly brought under control by the first in crew. The damage from the fire was mostly contained to the garage area of the home.
Fire officials say neighbouring units were also impacted by smoke and water.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
CKFES released the following educational message:
“Smoke alarms save lives. Install working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas and test them monthly. If battery operated, replace the battery twice annually when you change your clocks.”
