OPP investigate vessel collision at Belle River Marina

OPP are investigating after an 18-foot vessel struck the break wall at the Belle River pier Saturday afternoon.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to the collision at approximately 4:20 p.m.

A man and woman aboard have been transported to an area hospital.

Police say the 31-year-old Cambridge woman was seriously injured after she was ejected from the fishing boat.

The vessel operator, Stephen Elzinga, age 34 of Caledonia, Ontario has been charged with Dangerous Operation Of A Vessel Causing Bodily Harm and Operate A Vessel Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol In Blood Causing Bodily Harm.

He will appear in a Windsor court on November 28th.

A number of people were believed to have witnessed this collision and are asked to contact the OPP Essex County Major Crime Unit immediately at 519-723-2491 to assist with the investigation.
