Chatham teen arrested on outstanding warrant

An 18-year-old Chatham man was arrested on an outstanding warrant early this morning.

Police say the teen was arrested in August and charged with the following offences:

–       Theft under $5000

–       Possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000

–       Possession of break and enter tools

He was released with a court date of September 6th.  However, on that date he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said.

Early this morning at 6 a.m. an officer on general patrol in Chatham observed the man riding a bicycle on Patteson Avenue with no light and a traffic stop was initiated.  The man gave the officer a fake name, but through investigation the man’s identity was confirmed.

He was arrested on the warrant and additionally charged with obstructing police.  He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
