Chatham man facing drug charges
A 28-year-old Chatham man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop on Wellington Street E.
Police say the man was released from custody for the offences of possession of drugs and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 on September 26th. Two of his conditions were to obey a curfew and remain inside his residence between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. as well as present himself at the door when requested by a police officer.
Last night, just before 11 p.m. an officer on general patrol on Wellington Street E. in Chatham observed the man riding a bicycle with no light and a traffic stop was initiated.
When speaking with the officer, he provided a false name. However, through investigation, the identity of the man was confirmed and he was arrested and charged with obstruct police and failing to comply. During a search of the man incident to arrest, drugs were found on him, police said.
Therefore, he was additionally arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
He was then transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is held for a bail hearing.
