Chatham man charged with obstructing police

In August 2017, a man was placed on a probation order with Chatham Probation and Parole. One of his conditions was to remain inside his residence at all times, with few and very specific exceptions.

Early this morning at 4:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol in Chatham observed the man riding a bicycle on King Street W. without proper lighting and a traffic stop was initiated.  The man then fled from the officer on his bicycle and was eventually stopped on School Street.

Once stopped, the man allegedly gave the officer a fake name, but through investigation his identity was confirmed.

The 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with obstructing police and failing to comply with his probation order.  He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is held for a bail hearing.
