Chatham-Kent prepares to welcome international students
This weekend, on September 16th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kingston Park in Chatham, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Community Attraction and Promotion section, is holding an International Student Welcome Event for all new international students to the community.
Municipal officials say there are approximately 200 international students expected from countries around the world, including China, Dubai, Spain, Taiwan, India, and Belgium.
“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent would like to thank local school boards, host families and Rotary clubs for continuing to welcome and host new students in Chatham-Kent. International students will act as Chatham-Kent’s ambassadors in their home countries, and will have opportunities to learn or improve their English and learn about Canadian lifestyles and culture. Our local students will also learn more about international student’s cultures, and prepare for careers beyond Canadian boundaries,” stated municipal officials in a media release.
The event is open to all international students and their host. They will have the opportunity to meet with local organizations who will talk to them about services and other activities in the area, meet with some representatives from local Chatham-Kent agencies, and create new relationships.
The Mayor of Chatham-Kent and a representative from the Ministry of Education will officially open the event.
More information is available on the municipality’s website (livingck.ca). International students and their host families can RSVP or send questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
