Chatham man arrested on theft warrant
A 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested on an outstanding warrant early this morning.
Police say the man entered the No Frills located at 835 Queen Street in Chatham on July 26th at around 11:30 a.m. He exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items, valued at $110, which he had with him.
Two store employees ran after the man and caught up to him in the area of Cecile Avenue and Queen Street. The man threatened them with a weapon as they approached. The store employees took a picture of him and then returned to the store without the man. Police were then contacted.
The man was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Early this morning at 3 a.m. the man was observed on Grand Avenue and St. Clair Street by an officer on general patrol in Chatham. David Fields was arrested on the warrant for theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and utter threats.
He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of August 25th.
