Woman assaulted by man who broke into her home
A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted by an ex-boyfriend who broke into her home.
Police say the man was released from custody in November 2016 with a condition not to contact or communicate with the woman.
Yesterday around 3 p.m. the man attended the woman’s residence and went inside by forcing the door open. He did this while the woman was inside and asleep.
When the woman woke up, she found him rummaging through her belongings. According to police, when the woman asked him to leave, he assaulted her. The woman called police and the man left. She attended the hospital for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries.
The 33-year-old Chatham man was located a short distance away. He was arrested and charged with break, enter and commit assault and failing to comply. He is in custody for a bail hearing.
Police arrest alleged Walmart shoplifter
A theft suspect was arrested after a brief foot chase Wednesday night.
Just after 8 p.m. the man left the Wallaceburg Walmart without making any attempt to pay for items he had stolen.
Police were called and located the man who is known to Walmart employees and also to police. As the officer was attempting to place handcuffs on the man, he became physically aggressive and ran from the officer.
After a brief foot chase, the man; who continued to be uncooperative, was arrested.
Officers learned that due to past shoplifting incidents, the man was also on conditions not to attend Walmart.
Daniel Azevedo, 26 years, was arrested and charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, failing to comply, escape lawful custody and resist arrest. He was released from custody with a court date of March 8th.
