Man facing domestic charges
A man has been arrested in connection with an assault incident that occurred at an apartment complex in Chatham Monday afternoon.
Officers say an argument ensued between a man and the woman he had been living with at around 1 p.m. As the argument escalated, the woman got up to leave. As she was trying to unlock the door, the man stepped in between her and the door, preventing her from exiting. He then shoved her to the ground and hit her. The woman was heard screaming for help and police were called. The man left before officers arrived.
Police say the woman disclosed additional incidents where the man threatened and assaulted her. Officers looked for the man, but were unable to find him. A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest.
Yesterday around 4 p.m. the man was located and arrested. He is being charged with five counts of assault, two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of uttering threats. He is in custody for a bail hearing.
Woman arrested from wanted list
On January 17th a woman was released from police custody for the offences of fail to attend court, theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was required to attend court on January 31st, but failed to do so. A warrant was issued for her arrest.
Yesterday just before 1 p.m. Rachel Vanlanduyt, 30 years, of Wallaceburg turned herself in at the courthouse. She was arrested on the warrant and then released with a future court date of February 21st.
