Toronto start-up now Canadawide
Just one year after it was first founded, a start-up which got its humble start in Toronto has expanded to have a presence Canadawide.
CubbySpot is an award-winning website and mobile platform that helps parents find the best available daycare for their children, and daycare centres to fill their vacancies. It now covers all major Canadian cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Winnipeg, Quebec City, Edmonton, and Saint John. The app also has listings of licensed child care centres in other cities in Ontario and British Columbia.
CubbySpot celebrates its one-year anniversary this month,
Company co-founder and chief executive officer Regnard Raquedan and his wife, Liza, founded CubbySpot after they had trouble finding a daycare for their daughter. After countless calls, Internet searches, and endless waiting lists, they came up with CubbySpot, which has allowed Canadians to search for daycare services.
“We’re thrilled at the success of our company, but the best part of this is the fact that we can help other parents,” said Raquedan. “It’s difficult finding child care, and we’re so pleased that we can help people across the country.”
CubbySpot has been raking in international honours since its inception. It was a finalist at the 2015 Ignite Capital startup competition and was a winner at the 2016 BrightlaneEntrepreneur Awards. It was also the only Canadian to be named finalist at the 2015 Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Tech-I Competition at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
