Shop with a cop event gets $1500 donation

CKPS-Crest-259x300Shop with a cop is a multi-agency joint partnership that launched for Christmas 2014. The goal of this event is for law enforcement and other agencies to pair up with children to go Christmas shopping for them and their families. This year’s event will be held on December 19th.

The program is all about building trust with children so they know they can count on the police to help them in times or crisis. However you can’t leave out the fun for both the children and the officers involved who both will have a little more joy in their lives this holiday season.

Each child is give a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart and there is only one rule, they must get something for themselves too. Fifty children will be selected this year to take part in this auspicious event.

At the police services board meeting on Tuesday the request for a $1000 donation was increased to $1500 because of the significance of this event for the children. The money was allocated from the police auction fund.

Hopefully this Christmas the kids will leave with a bag full of goodies, and a greater impression of the fine men and woman of law enforcement in Chatham-Kent.
