Sex charges for Chatham violin teacher go back more than 30 years
A retired violin teacher has been charged with ten counts of sexual assault that involve school aged females. Accusations were made to police earlier this month about offences that go back to the early 80’s. An investigation was launched by the Chatham-Kent police Major Crime Unit.
Claude Eric Trachy, 70, has been charged with ten counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual exploitation. He has been released with a date to appear in court and conditions.
Trachy was a self-employed strings teacher who taught stringed instruments for over 50 years, primarily the violin and the viola.
Investigators want to ensure that there are no other victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact Constable Shawn Mungar of the Major Crime Unit at 519-436-6600 ext. 288 or via email at shawnm@chatham-kent.ca.
