CK community development forumEveryone is invited to the CK Community Development Forum on Monday, October 19, 6 p.m., followed by a regular Council Meeting in the Municipal Council Chambers, Civic Centre, 315 King Street West, Chatham.

This forum will celebrate Chatham-Kent’s Feature Act recognizing citizen volunteer committees of Wallaceburg and Chatham, whose efforts support the creation of Dog off-Leash Recreation Areas and Show Host Don Shropshire, Chief Administrative Officer, Municipality of Chatham-Kent with Mike Turner, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Municipality of Chatham-Kent will introduce Chatham-Kent’s Long-Term Strategic Financial Plan. Everyone is welcome and the event is free of charge.

“Join with us in celebrating citizens for taking action to create a better Chatham-Kent and learn about the new Long-Term Strategic Financial Plan as a support to the alignment of our planning and reporting efforts,” said Don Shropshire. “A Long-Term Strategic Financial Plan will support Council and staff when making decisions related to service, program planning and community assets in the years ahead,” commented Shropshire, “as we continue to make Chatham-Kent a great place to live, learn, work and play.”

The first part of the forum showcases the volunteers who have devoted their time and energy to support the creation of two dog off-leash recreation areas.

“These parks are a great place to build a network of friends and connect with your community. As a Chamber of Commerce we believe it is important to create environments that support and foster business in anyway,” said Karen DeBergh, President, Wallaceburg Chamber of Commerce.

The second part of the forum focuses on the Long-Term Strategic Financial Plan as a support component of the Integrated Planning and Reporting Cycle. “The plan is built off of the many great processes and procedures that we currently had in place,” said Mike Turner, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Municipality of Chatham-Kent. “This Plan will consolidate and formalize and integrate those processes, but also add some new ideas for Council to consider.” commented Turner.

Two additional speakers have been invited to share their perspectives on how a long-term strategic financial plan supports building a sustainable Chatham-Kent.

Chris Terech, Acting Director, Municipal Finance Policy Branch, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will talk about the tools and funding mechanisms the Ministry provides to support municipalities in the development of long-term financial plans.

Amy Wilcox, Manager of Corporate Initiatives, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, will speak about the importance of the financial planning component of the municipal Integrated Planning and Reporting Cycle. This cycle, once fully developed and implemented, should help to direct decisions and help to alleviate financial and reporting stress. The Integrated Planning and Reporting Cycle is the manner in which we will link CK Plan key strategies and tactics, and Council Investment Priorities, with resource allocation, performance management and continuous improvement.
