Arrested man had concealed drugs in his mouth
A man was arrested in Chatham last night for breaching his probation order and when police searched him he had a small red 30mg hydromorphone pill in a plastic bag in his mouth.
Police were called to Park Avenue West just after 10 p.m. for a suspicious person. Police found the man on Kendall Street where he was taken into custody and searched. The 20-year-old Walpole Island man is under a probation order to obey a curfew between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., as well as a separate order that requires he not possess or take illegal drugs.
While investigating the man police realized he was also wanted for a shoplifting complaint earlier in the night at Bob’s Food Basics on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
He has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, drug possession and two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
