Man charged with impaired after sister dies in accident

The brother of a woman who was killed in an accident in Adelaide-Metcalf last summer has been charged by the OPP with impaired driving, criminal negligence causing death, exceeding 80mg of alcohol while causing a fatal accident and possession of marijuana.

The accident took place on June 19, 2014, northwest of Strathroy, when a 2000 Lincoln car was travelling eastbound on Napperton Drive. The car left the roadway, rolled over and struck a hydro pole in the south ditch.

The 29-year-old driver from Strathroy Caradoc, Jeffrey Day, needed to be cut out by firefighters. He was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. His 27-year-old younger sister, also from Strathroy Caradoc, Michelle Day, died in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Day was released after being charged and is scheduled to be in a London court on April 24.
