Blackburn Radio changes it’s tune

Blackburn Radio has announced that as of 10 a.m. today - COOL-FM comes to 95.1FM in Chatham. COOL-FM will “Play it all” featuring the best-of-the-best from the 80’s, 90’s and today. Artists like Bon Jovi, Queen, INXS, Pink, John Mellencamp, Def Leppard, Fleetwood Mac, Maroon 5, Duran Duran, Billy Idol and a long list of other popular artists will comprise our COOL sound.

Blackburn says it’s market research indicates a change was needed for CKUE-FM. “Listeners told us we were too soft and sleepy on CKUE-FM,” says Walter Ploegman, Blackburn Radio General Manager. “Listeners can expect a very upbeat, fun radio station that plays songs that everyone knows!” COOL-FM will feature local news, weather and community information and will be the perfect companion for both men and women age 35 and up.

COOL-FM’s new Program Director Jay Stevens says, “I’m extremely proud to return to my roots and help a wonderful team bring a great COOL new brand to the Chatham-Kent market! By playing it all, we’ll be many things to many people, but the one constant is that we’ll definitely be cool!”

Their research also indicates the Chatham-Windsor radio market is lacking ‘a music format that is geared towards a more middle-aged adult,’ an ‘adult that is on the go, active, and looking for fun.’ From a business perspective, ‘we are competing for listeners every day and that pie is getting smaller.’ Ploegman went on to say that ‘investing in the market means taking every opportunity to research and accumulate feedback to produce the most appealing relevant format possible.’

COOL-FM launches at 10am today commercial free. Blackburn says it will remain commercial free until they need to pay a utility bill.
