There is still time to cast your vote for the Chatham Memorial Arena in the Kraft Hockeyville contest. Voting ends at midnight tonight and you can vote as often as you wish.
The effort in Chatham is being led by Chatham Maroons super-fan Chad Peterson, who has gone to Maroons games for seven years. Wearing a helmet goal-light, Peterson signifies goals scored by the Maroons by turning the light on at home games. Peterson is soon to be honoured by the team for his passionate support of the Maroons and leading the charge for Chatham during the Kraft Hockeyville contest.
There is no decision yet on what upgrades will be purchased with the $100,000. Assistant General Manager of the Maroons told the CKReview that the final decision goes to Kraft. “Kraft will make the final decisions about what gets upgraded, it is their money to spend.” The visiting dressing room, new seating and work in the lobby are likely to be under consideration.
Peterson got the idea for the helmet he wears to Maroons games when he went to a Red Wings game in Detroit. “They were selling these kind of hats so I thought ‘Oh wouldnt that be cool. I go to the Chatham Maroons. Nobody else has a hat like this, so why don’t I change it up?’ I had the helmet painted and here I am.” Peterson sees many ways the Memorial Arena could put the money to use. “I love hockey. I love seeing the Chatham Maroons play. I thought this arena needs some good upgrades, we cannot hear the PA system when the announcer is talking and the seats are so hard it makes your butt kind of sore”, Peterson said.
Peterson described his reaction to Chatham being announced as one of the two finalists. “It was just a miracle. I thought I was on cloud nine.”, said Peterson, “I cried of course, because this is Chatham and this is what I want to do for Chatham-Kent. It’s not for me, it’s for Chatham. It’s for all of Hockeyville.”
