Police say a verbal altercation led to an assault on Gray Street yesterday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police were called to a residence about an assault and after a short investigation arrested a 48-year-old Chatham man. He is accused of assaulting another 48-year-old Chatham man who was coming to the defense of a mutual friend.

Police found the accused and he was taken into custody. He has been charged with assault, making threats and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was released with a court date.
