Chatham-Kent among top ten in Kraft Hockeyville Contest

By Chris Glassford

Chatham-Kent is one of the top-ten finalists in the Kraft Hockeyville 2015 Competition,  Kraft has announced.

The first place winner will receive an NHL pre-season game, as well as $100,000.00 for arena upgrades. The second place city will receive only the $100,000.00 in arena upgrades and the third place city receives $25,000.

The arena for the Chatham-Kent nomination is the Chatham Memorial Arena, home of the Chatham Jr. B Maroons. Super-fan Chad Peterson has worked with a group of local supporters to lead the movement, even going as far as designing his car in vinyl graphics. He also wears a red beacon attached to a hockey helmet to every Jr.B Maroons game and signals Maroons goals by activating it.

The other nine final cities selected are, Bonnyville AB, Dawson Creek BC, Haliburton ON, Middleton NS, Morden MB, Morinville AB, Happy Valley-Goose Bay NL, Saint-Joseph De Beauce QC and North Saanich BC.

The way our city spends money if we won, the $100,000 would likely get ate up in admin fees and we’d maybe get some new tires or something on the zamboni
