The existing Municipal Council, new Councillors-Elect, and senior administration met on Monday evening, November 17, in an initial strategy discussion held at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre.

Don Shropshire, Chief Administrative Officer, said, “I think tonight we learned more about what the incoming Council hopes to achieve together and what they want their legacy to be. This is really important to municipal staff. We need Council’s direction as to where they think we will need to focus our time and energies.”

Mayor Randy Hope said, “The administration did a great job tonight for the new and returning Councillors by highlighting investments in jobs, people and health in Chatham-Kent. The most important thing is that we do this in a financially sustainable way. Councillors shared their perspectives about some of the opportunities and challenges that are facing residents of Chatham-Kent. We are moving forward in the right direction.”

The newly elected Council and senior administration will meet again on December 10 to determine Council’s priorities.

The new Council will be sworn in on December 1, 2014, and the Councillors will immediately assume their responsibilities.
