Accident on Highway 40 leaves one person dead

s police 6A two vehicle accident on Highway 40 has killed one man and sent three people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Just before 6 p.m.,  the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at Highway 40 and Fairview Line.

For reasons unknown at this time, a Chrysler car traveling westbound on Fairview Line and a Pontiac minivan traveling northbound on Highway 40, collided. The car was occupied by a male and a female. The minivan was also occupied by a male and a female. All four occupants were transported to hospital, where the male driver of the car was pronounced deceased. The female passenger of the car, and the male and female occupants of the minivan were listed as having non-life threatening injuries. The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team has been called in to assist with the investigation.

Highway 40 is closed between Park Avenue and Maynard Line.

As well, Fairview Line at Eastlawn and Fairview Line at Harwich Road are closed. As the investigation is in the early stages, these road closures are expected to last several hours while the investigation continues.
