JASPER, Alta. - The RCMP in Jasper, Alta say the discovery of human remains on the Athabasca Glacier has closed a 19 year old missing persons case.

Police have confirmed that a body found by hikers on Thursday is that of a 28 year old New Brunswick man who was reported missing on Jan. 31, 1995 while climbing alone on the glacier.

The Mounties say the man’s next of kin have been notified, and are grateful to finally have answers to questions they’ve be asking for 19 years.

They also say they’re honouring the family’s request not to release the man’s name.

The RCMP and the Edmonton Medical examiners office will continue working to determine the cause of death, but investigators say foul play is not suspected.
