The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to investigate an incident of found human remains that were recovered in a marsh area near Mitchell’s Bay on March 23, 1987.

The skeletal remains were found in Mitchell’s Bay (Lake St. Clair) at Lot 8, Concession 12, Dover Township, near Wallaceburg, Ontario.  The victim has not yet been identified.

An autopsy of the remains determined that the cause of death was drowning. A craniofacial approximation has been completed and may help in identifying this person.

Investigation has indicated that the remains belong to a black male between 23 and 27-years-old with a slight build. He would have been 152 – 170 cm (5’ – 5’7”) tall. Clothing found with the remains includes a shirt, blue jeans, size 8 “Winner” blue/grey running shoes with Velcro fasteners, and sport socks with a red and white stripe.

“The OPP never closes its files on unidentified victims,” said detective inspector Hillman, the Criminal Investigation Branch case manager. “Our investigative team is confident that someone holds a key piece of information that will help us solve this case.”

Anyone having information that may lead to the identification of these remains should communicate immediately with the Director of Criminal Investigation Services, Ontario Provincial Police, at 1-888-310-1122 or (705) 329 – 6111; or their nearest police authority or Crime Stoppers.
