Brief chase ends with suspect facing multiple charges in Wheatley

A 38-year-old Wheatley driver has been charged after he was pulled over by police and then tried to escape on foot.

The man was pulled over on Wheatley Road at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday. Police soon realized he was suspended from driving and had licence plates that were unauthorized for his vehicle. A vehicle search turned up 60 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

The Wheatley man has been charged with failing to stop for police, driving while under suspension and using plates not authorized for his vehicle. The cigarettes were seized and will be destroyed.
