Westbound tractor-trailer crosses median and strikes eastbound car on the 401

Today, just before 2:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Harwich North Volunteer Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on highway 401 near Mull Road.

For reasons unknown, a tractor-trailer travelling westbound on highway 401 left the roadway, crossed the centre median and entered the eastbound lanes, striking an eastbound car. Unconfirmed reports say two people were removed without vital signs.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team has been called in to assist with the investigation.

As the investigation is in the early stages, the highway is expected to be closed in both directions between Kent Bridge Road and Communication Road for several hours. Expect delays.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
