Retrofest is getting ready to rumble through the streets of Chatham tonight. The annual event starts off with a parade of about 600 classic cars that leaves the John D. Bradley Centre, sometime between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The cars arrive on King Street anywhere from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
The movie Planes is showing at Tecumseh Park at dusk, about 8:30.
Dover Township resident Doug Smith won the Mayor For A Day contest after his entry was drawn by mayor Randy Hope on April 3. Smith will lead the parade tonight with his 1969 Mustang bearing the licence plate SWEEET69.
Smith has also won the prize of driving the lead car of the RetroFest Car Cruise, a cruise that consists of classic cars that ends in the heart of downtown Chatham.
Tomorrow the events start at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
