May 12, 2021 (CHATHAM) – Canadian Blood Services has launched its first mobile App. The new GiveBlood App, available now in the Apple App Store and in Google Play, gives users a quick and easy way to find, book and schedule a blood donation appointment in your calendar and share with friends on social media. You can also track the number of donations you’ve made, find out about donor eligibility and more. The App is the first step to make it easier to interact with Canadian Blood Services online.
Canadians looking to help save lives can use the GiveBlood App now to answer the Blood Signal. Blood donations can decrease around long weekends because many regular donors are away or busy with family activities, but the demand for blood remains constant. That’s why Canadian Blood Services has activated the Blood Signal to remind community members from coast to coast about the importance of donating blood before, during and after a long weekend.
“It takes many donors to save a life—as many as five donors to help just one person in cancer treatment,” says Mark Donnison, Vice-President of Donor Relations. “The GiveBlood App makes it faster and easier for donors to rally around patients, especially during Blood Signal. We’re embracing new technology to make it more convenient for donors to connect with us.”
There is a need for more first-time and current blood donors to give before and after Victoria Day. While there is a continuous need for all blood types, there is always a greater need for blood donors with O negative blood.
Upcoming clinics this long weekend in Chatham include:
- The Spirit & Life Centre (St. Joe’s Site), 184 Wellington West, Wednesday, May 14, 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Chatham Polish Canadian Club, 281 Inshes Avenue, Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m. to 12 noon
