A 28-year-old Chatham woman threw her own feces at a police officer after being arrested yesterday.

The incident began at around 7:30 a.m. when police arrived at a Victoria Avenue residence on a disturbance report. Police say they saw the woman when they arrived, as she kicked the front door of the residence and was yelling and swearing. The woman broke the pane glass in the door, causing about $500 in damage. The suspect then attempted to get away on foot, but police made an arrest quickly. Police report that during the arrest she resisted being taken into custody, by constantly pulling her arms away from police.

While at police headquarters, the woman continued to be uncooperative and bit the hand of an officer. While being placed in a cell, the woman defecated and threw her own feces towards the officers.

Police learned that the woman was at the same residence around 2 a.m. and assaulted the male homeowner seriously enough that he sought medical care at the hospital.

The woman has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, two counts of mischief, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer. She was transported to the courthouse for a bail hearing.
