Chatham man dead after accident on Tecumseh Line

A 74-year-old Chatham man has died and his passenger, a 49-year-old Chatham woman suffered minor injuries, in a single vehicle accident last night on Tecumseh Line.

The accident happened at about 8:45 p.m. on Tecumseh Line between Dauphin Road and Pump Road.

The man was driving eastbound on Tecumseh Line when he lost control. His white Lincoln left the road, rolled and came to rest in a field. The man was taken to the Chatham public general hospital absent of vital signs. Medical personnel attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Unit is currently investigating the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact constable Todd Trahan at 519-355-1092.

Update: The man has been identified as Theodore (Ted) Wagenaar, a long-time business man from Chatham.
