This morning, just before 9 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving an air boat on Lake St. Clair, near Mitchell’s Bay, about one-half mile from shore.
The collision occurred when the boat, carrying three men, struck an object in the water, causing it to veer and overturn. The three men, a 73-year-old from Mitchell’s Bay, a 74-year-old from Tupperville and a 69-year-old from Bass Haven, were briefly submerged in the four feet deep water before climbing up onto the overturned boat to signal for help. An individual on shore, who had seen what occurred, immediately placed a phone call for help. A nearby fisherman attended in his boat and transported the three men to safety.
No injuries were reported.
