On April 6, just before 1 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program at Communication Road and Grand Avenue East, when a Mazda automobile entered and stopped for the officers.
While police were speaking with the driver, it was determined that he had been consuming alcohol.
Subsequent tests indicated that Jeffery Authier, age 19, from Blenheim, was over the legal limit. He will appear in a Chatham court to answer to charges for drinking and driving and having a blood aclohol content over zero while being a novice driver.
