Tractor-trailer slams into tow-truck on the 401

OPP(CHATHAM-KENT, ON)  Yesterday just after 5:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a tow-truck on highway 401 westbound near Charing Cross Road.

The collision occurred when a red Freightliner tractor-trailer was travelling westbound and struck a white Ford tow-truck which was stopped on the north shoulder of the highway assisting in the removal of abandoned vehicles as a result of the recent snow storm. The tow-truck was unoccupied at the time of the collision.

The driver, 31-year-old Gurpreet Bains, from Windsor, was charged with:

  • careless driving
  • failing to slow down for an emergency vehicle
  • having a trailer with no plate

No injuries were reported.
