No Frills shoplifting incident leads to charges

s police1The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a shoplifting incident in Chatham yesterday afternoon.

Around 4:30 p.m. the woman entered the No Frills grocery store on Queen Street. The woman left the store with about $60 worth of groceries while making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. An employee followed the woman outside and the property was recovered. The woman fled the area in a vehicle waiting for her.

Officers located the vehicle around 5:30 p.m. on Adelaide Street and the woman was arrested. The 18-year-old Harwich Township woman has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
