The OPP warn drivers about slick roads

OPP cruiserThe Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging motorists to drive with extreme caution today as the environmental and road conditions continue to deteriorate around the municipality. The OPP say officers are responding to several collisions with vehicles in the ditch on highway 401 and highway 40.

Due to the snow and blowing snow, both highway 401 and highway 40 are experiencing poor visibility and the roadways are snow-covered and slippery.

Chatham-Kent OPP is urging the public to avoid travel, if possible. If travel is necessary, Chatham-Kent OPP are cautioning drivers to slow down and leave lots of extra space between you and other vehicles. Adjust your speed to match the road conditions and ensure that your vehicle’s full lighting system is turned on.

The OPP are asking the public to be cautious as emergency crews will be on the highways assisting motorists throughout the day.
