Man faces more charges after break-ins

s police 8The Chatham-Kent police have laid more charges against a man arrested yesterday morning in connection with a break and enter.

As previously released, around 6 a.m. yesterday, police responded to the area of Lacroix Street near Tweedsmuir Avenue West about a suspicious man dressed in dark clothing carrying a flashlight around a vacant residence. Officers flooded the area and observed that a window was broken and a door forced open.  Damage to the residence was estimated at $2500. Police found him inside the Lacroix Street residence and he was arrested.

The man was in possession of silverware gathered from various locations within the residence and his backpack contained jewelry and banking documents belonging to a woman on St. Michael Avenue in Chatham.

Police went to the woman’s address and found a broken window and that the residence was in disarray. Damage was estimated at $500. Police found the woman who identified the stolen jewelry as being hers.

The 22-year-old Chatham man has been charged with possessing break-in tool and two counts of:

  • break and enter
  • mischief
  • theft
  • possession of stolen property

He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
