Vehicle plunges down 80 foot embankment after tractor-trailer collision

January 2, just before 2:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles on highway 401 eastbound near Communication Road.

The collision occurred when a Ford vehicle traveling eastbound struck a tractor-trailer also traveling eastbound. The Ford vehicle then travelled over the south guard rail of the eastbound lanes and down an 80 foot embankment where it came to rest.

The driver of the Ford, 23-year-old Benjamin Goldhawk, from Ridgetown, has been charged with careless driving.

A passenger in the Ford vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
