MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A van believed to be transporting Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has arrived at a South Florida jail following his arrest on charges of drag-racing and driving under the influence.
Television footage showed a van thought to be carrying Bieber from a Miami Beach police station to a Miami-Dade County jail.
The van, with blacked-out windows, was trailed by squad cars. After the van left the station, police said Bieber was gone.
Miami Beach police say Bieber has been charged with resisting arrest without violence in addition to the other charges.
They say the singer told authorities he had consumed alcohol, smoked marijuana and taken prescription drugs.
According to police, Bieber was driving a Lamborghini and R&B singer Khalil, who was also arrested, was driving a Ferrari. Both cars were towed.
Chief Ray Martinez told a news conference this morning the singer was initially not co-operative when an officer pulled him over for drag racing.
Martinez says the singer also had an invalid Georgia driver’s licence.
