Snowploughs doing what they can

Ice-and-snowThe municipality of Chatham-Kent public works department advises that as of 9 a.m. weather conditions remain poor with snow and wind gusts up to 70 km/h causing visibility and safety concerns.

Many rural roads especially the north-south rural roads have large drifts with many being blocked with stranded vehicles.

There are also a number of open areas in the urban centres which are experiencing significant drifting.

At this time there are areas of the municipality where snowploughs are still not able to operate safely because of the visibility issues.

Snowploughs for the time being will be focusing on keeping open the major north/south rural roads. Motorists are strongly urged to stay off the roads until conditions improve.
