Snow emergency leads to parking ban until Wednesday

Municipality-of-Chatham-KentThe Municipality of Chatham-Kent public works department has declared a snow emergency.

Weather forecasts indicate a heavy snowfall with accumulation of 15 to 20 cm of snow by the end of the day. The municipality has placed a 72-hour ban on the parking of vehicles on municipal streets and roads so that snow ploughs can clear away the snow more effectively.

The ban starts at 3 p.m. today when the heaviest snowfall is expected to start and continues to 3 p.m. on Wednesday January 8th 2014.

“We are asking motorists to make every effort to move their vehicles off the streets so that the ploughs can clear the roads more effectively,” said the director of Public Works Wayne Pollock, “We recognize that this is an inconvenience, but there are no other options. Emergency vehicles, citizens and local businesses all depend on these streets being cleared as quickly as possible. The order will be rescinded as soon as road conditions warrant it to limit the inconvenience to residents.”
