The Chatham-Kent public works department advises that, as of 5 p.m., road conditions have changed little since noon and remain poor with extensive snow drifting, some stranded vehicles and visibility concerns.
The wind direction has generally changed to the north, causing snow drifting in different sections of roads. Weather forecasts continue to indicate that snow flurries and strong winds with gusts up to 60 km/h will continue Sunday and go well into Monday.
Snow ploughs will be continuing winter control operations overnight depending on visibility conditions. Operators are reporting that many rural roads remain hazardous.
Motorists are strongly urged to stay off the roads until conditions improve.
Regarding municipal programs, residents are encouraged to check the municipal website at www.chatham-kent.ca or telephone the facility to confirm if a program is running.
