OPP say they responded to over 40 accidents in CK over the weekend

OPP cruiserChatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were kept very busy between January 24, just before 8 p.m., to just after 2 a.m. January 27, responding to over 40 motor vehicle collisions along highway 401 and on highway 40. Only minor injuries were reported.

As a result of collisions and very poor weather and road conditions, highway 40 was closed between Chatham and Wallaceburg, from about 11:30 p.m. January 24, to about 3:30 p.m. January 25.

Highway 401 was closed eastbound at Communication Road, from about 10:30 a.m. January 25, 2014, to just after 1 p.m. that afternoon, due to a motor vehicle collision.

These collisions are preventable. Chatham-Kent OPP urges the public to avoid travel, if possible, during times of dangerous weather and road conditions. If you must be on the roads, Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind motorists to use extreme caution, to please slow down and leave lots of space between you and other vehicles. Adjust your speed to match the road conditions.
