Nicholls focused on job creation as spring session approaches

Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls says job creation will be his largest concern in the upcoming spring session at Queens Park.

“We must stop the bleeding of continual job loss and growing debt in Ontario immediately. When the Ontario Legislature resumes in February, the government must focus on job creation and keeping taxes low,” Nicholls said yesterday.

“Since 2003, our region has lost over 11,000 jobs. We have also seen a 4.2% drop in population and over 150 companies have closed up shop. The number one focus of the provincial government should be job creation. We need to provide a reason for our young people to stay in Ontario, and encourage those who have left the province to find work to come home.  The economic principle is simple.  Working people pay taxes, stimulate the economy, leave social program resources for those who need them, and live healthier lifestyles”.

Nicholls is concerned that the Liberals will introduce additional tax hikes also known as revenue tools in their Spring Budget, as recommended by a taxpayer-funded Liberal study.

“The current system of wasting tax dollars and continuing to ask for more is not working. It’s time for a change in how this government works. Spending your way out of debt is not the way to go.  Government should first and foremost work for you, not the other way around.”

Nicholls believes that the government must set the proper conditions for the economy to grow. The Ontario PCs have pledged to add 1 million jobs to the province over 8 years.

“Considering the fact that 39,000 jobs were lost last month, creating 125,000 jobs per year is not unreasonable.  Our jobs plan will also bring people from other provinces back to Ontario and cause our province to go from worst to first!” Nicholls claimed.

“We have a plan to keep companies in Ontario. Government does not create real jobs, large and small businesses do. All we can do is establish the right environment for investment and jobs to flourish,” Nicholls said.

“Other parties have said that the Million Jobs Act is dreaming too big. But it happened before under PC leadership. Unlike some politicians, I would never bet against the ambition and ability of this province,” Nicholls stated.

“We must remember that the best social program is a good paying job. Nothing has a greater positive impact on a community than good quality jobs, and that is what we want to bring to Ontario,” Nicholls concluded.
