A 22-year-old Chatham man is in police custody this morning after police arrested him for punching his girlfriend in the face.
The two had argued yesterday morning at their residence where police say the assault took place. The victim had swelling to the side of her face but did not need medical help.
The man has been charged with assault and was held in custody for a bail hearing.
