Chase after stolen vehicle suspect ends with foot pursuit

s police 3On January 1, just before 1:30 a.m., police spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen on Lorne Ave. in Chatham.

The vehicle then turned on Lacroix Street, crossed Richmond Street and went over a curb on Inshes Ave. The vehicle would not stop for police.

Police terminated the pursuit for safety concerns, however the vehicle continued to the plaza on Lacroix Street at the rail line overpass.

The suspect drove behind the plaza, then attempted to negotiate the turn from behind the plaza back into the parking lot when he lost control, slid over an embankment and crashed through a sidewalk rail on to the road.

Then he fled on foot and tried unsuccessfully to get into a passing vehicle.

The suspect continued on foot through several backyards and was eventually located by police hiding under a truck in the rear yard of a residence on Park Ave.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and faces several charges including: theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and failing to stop for police.
