Careless driving charge for man who downed hydro pole

A 55-year old-Chatham man has been charged with careless driving after a single motor vehicle collision.

At 9:45 a.m. on Saturday 11 January, a Ford pick-up truck left the roadway at Merlin Road and McDougall Line Tilbury East Twp.

His vehicle struck and knocked down a hydro pole, bringing down lines and causing a local power disruption in that area. The driver was not injured. The road was closed while crews repaired the downed lines. Total costs are not yet known.
